Enviromedica Nascent Iodine - 30ml
Traditionally, the importance of iodine to the biological function of the body was focused on iodine's role in the nourishment of the thyroid gland, particularly for the production of T3 and T4 hormones and the regulation of metabolism.
As the understanding of this nutrient has progressed, we come to understand the role of iodine in the body far surpasses what most thought—it is not only necessary for overall health, but a crucial component of the detoxification process, metabolism regulation and immune system activity. All the cells in your body contain and make use of iodine. It is concentrated in the glandular system of your body, with your thyroid containing the highest amount compared to any other organ.
It is estimated that over 50% of Australian women have an Iodine deficiency. A lack of iodine in the diet can have a significant impact on thyroid function. Plant foods can be excellent sources of iodine, but unfortunately the soil in which they are grown is so depleted of nutrients these days. Seafood, kelp, and seaweed products are good sources of iodine, and iodized salt can also help but most people find this difficult to achieve through diet alone.
Patch Test
To find out if you have an iodine deficiency, it is recommended you ask your Doctor or Practitioner to order blood work or urine test. You can also perform an at home skin test (also sometimes called a “patch test”). To conduct this test, before bed, use a tincture of iodine to paint a 3-inch square patch on the inside of your forearm, the inside of a thigh, or your abdomen. The next morning, inspect the painted area. If all the colour remains, then your iodine level is adequate. If all the colour is gone, then you likely have an iodine deficiency. Varying degrees of color loss correspond to your degree of iodine deficiency.
Adequate iodine levels are critical for preconception and pregnancy not only for the health of mum, but for the neurological and cognitive development of the baby. It is also a good idea to recheck levels postpartum.
Ingredients
Nascent Iodine in a base of Demeter certified Biodynamic grape alcohol (2% Iodine by weight / 400mcg of nascent iodine per drop)
Usage recommendations
One drop = 400mcg of iodine. If using for additional energy and general improved health take up to 6 drops daily. Frequent small doses are more effective than larger amounts at less frequent intervals.
Nascent Iodine is activated in water only. Mixing Nascent Iodine with anything other than water will diminish its energetic properties. Take on an empty stomach and 30 minutes before or 1 hour after meals, medications and/or supplements. Taking it after 4 PM could raise your energy levels and keep you awake at night. It is recommended to take before breakfast/ before lunch so your body can utilise the surge in energy levels.
Placing a drop under the tongue is another effective means of administration and rapid absorption.
You can also apply drops directly to the skin for transdermal absorption.
Please check with your practitioner if you have Autoimmune Thyroiditis, as Iodine supplementation may not be right for you.
